Our Staff

Pastors

Tom Douthit

Senior Pastor

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
Most of my responsibilities focus on five areas:
•    Sunday morning preaching/teaching
•    Clarifying and communicating our present vision emphasis
•    Encouraging and managing our stellar BridgePoint staff
•    Developing new leadership
•    Shepherding the body at BridgePoint

My Passions in Ministry
I love that God chose to describe His church as a body – many parts yet one!  There is a powerful sense of acceptance and purpose for each individual in that word picture, yet in Him we are a part of something so much bigger and greater than ourselves! I am passionate about people finding their place in the body of Christ – loving and being loved, serving and being served, reaching out and growing deep.

A little more about me
God has given me a tremendous family. My wife Celia (who serves as a school nurse at Bunker Hill Elementary School) and I have been married since 1985. We have 4 children – Joel, Emily, Jared and Amy – who we enjoy immensely.  It is remarkable watching them grow up and launch out! I attended Texas A & M University (B.S. Biomedical Science, 1982) and Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM, 1988).  I love college football, being outside, working around the house and dream of kayaking the Mississippi from end to end.

John Hopper

Executive Pastor

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
Most of my responsibilities focus on five areas:
•    Oversight and leadership of a variety of staff and leadership teams
•    Adult education, which includes a lot of teaching
•    Pastoral leadership and counseling for the many missionaries we support
•    Churchwide budget & policy development
•    Creative input in Sunday morning worship and other key ministries

My Passions in Ministry
I think what I love more than anything else in ministry is when I hear people say, “I've never seen it like that before.”  Those moments of awakening are like food to my soul.  Whether it has to do with the nature and work of God, the indwelling life of Christ, God’s heart for all peoples, or the clarity that Scripture can bring to every arena of life, there is nothing better than seeing people's hearts and minds and lives reshaped in fantastically new ways.

A little more about me
I grew up in California and came to Texas for college where I met my wife more than 25 years ago.  In our marriage, we have lived for stints in Uzbekistan, an island in British Columbia, and the foothills of Quebec, and along the way ended up with four great kids.  Eric, Ian, Hudson, and Corrie are all named after Christian heroes (can you guess after who?) and are a fantastic bunch.   It seems like I have always been in school (maybe because I have!!) and along the way earned degrees at Trinity University (B.A., Economics), University of Houston (M.Ed.), and Bethel Seminary (M.A. Transformational Leadership).  Currently I am a doctoral candidate at Talbot School of Theology where I am studying apologetics, philosophy, and worldview issues.   The best school, however, seems to be the one that comes with hard knocks or a quiet room with a book.  To gain a little more insight into me, see www.jkhlibrary.com.

Mike Andrews

Connecting Pastor

My Main Responsibilities at BridgePoint
•    Leading the Connection Ministry, this includes ministry to newcomers and those interested in membership
•    Teaching and Preaching
•    Pastoral Counseling
•    Leading Men’s Ministry

My Passions in Ministry
I’m passionate about pursuing the Biblical Jesus and helping others do the same! I want to help people overcome sin, fear, pain and anything else that would hold them back from being the mature followers He intends for us to be.

A Little More About Me
Jesus saved me while I was a student at the University of North Carolina (Go Heels!) and that’s also where I met my beautiful bride, Sharon.  A few years after we were married the Lord made a dream come true for me and we came to Texas so I could attend Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M. ’98). God has given us 5 wonderful kids: Abby, Hannah, Robert, Sarah and Faith. I enjoy all things firearms-related, WW2 history and just being with my family.

Kyle Carlson

Pastor of Worship & Prayer

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
My primary responsibilities (and thus, the majority of my time and resources) center on the church's times of gathered worship. In partnership with our Senior Pastor and a handful of other key people, I develop the structure and flow of each corporate worship event, along with the musical and spoken content (outside the sermon). In addition to developing the worship services, I also have the privilege of serving as the primary worship leader. If you're really interested in what my job looks like, it could be broken down like this:
•  Planning, development, and leadership of weekly corporate worship meetings
•  Oversight and leadership of key volunteers (worship band, technical team, etc.)
•  Planning and leadership of other special worship events
•  Oversight and/or leadership of other musical programs in the church (e.g., adult and children's choirs)
•  Various pastoral ministry functions (hospital visits, counseling, etc.)

My Passions in Ministry
I believe that the celebration of the gospel (worship) and the proclamation of the gospel (evangelism) are the primary reasons the church exists. As one responsible for planning and leading corporate worship, my driving concern is to make the gospel story – Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, applied to those who believe – the central content of our songs, prayers, readings, and other elements of our weekly worship gatherings.
I want our times of gathered worship to reinforce the work of God in the hearts of his people, and believe that weekly reminders of his holiness, sovereignty, mercy, and love will strengthen our faith in him and equip us to live in the world in a way that brings him glory and reveals him to those around us.

A little more about me
As much as I love serving at BridgePoint, my primary (earthly) devotion is to my wife, Lindsey, and to our four children (Madeline, Collin, Jude, and Spencer). I get unusual nerdy joy from reading (I read mostly theology, but occasionally enjoy biographies or works of fiction.). I love great movies, and get really excited about seeing a terrific story captured through film. (If you ask me for a favorite, I’ll say “Forrest Gump.”) I went to high school in a dinky Texas town (Clifton), got a B.A. in Christian Studies from a dinky Baptist college (Howard Payne University), and can currently be found crawling my way toward a Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Life is good.

Wayne Martin

Pastor to Senior Adults

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
Most of my responsibilities focus on the following areas:
•    Act as key shepherd and pastor to senior adults at BridgePoint, especially so in times of infirmity.
•    Keep abreast of prayer life concerns/prayer concerns by monitoring needs senior adults through phone calls, visitation, church conversations.
•    Direct monthly Keenager meetings, including planning program, arranging speakers, and music, preparing venue, and refreshments
•    Oversee any volunteers or committees that help with ministry to senior adults.
•    Plan periodic day trips by utilizing Precinct #3 buses, making all site arrangements, providing leadership, making pre-trip runs to ensure suitability for seniors and access for “special needs” individuals
•    Help seniors with various personal life difficulties, as appropriate
•    Visit seniors in home and in hospitals as needed
•    Visit non-seniors in hospital when other pastors are unavailable to make a visit
•    Conduct and assist in Funeral Services

My Passions in Ministry
People:   People are important and I desire to make people know they are important! Every opportunity is valuable, whether, taking time to demonstrate by a single greeting or a more prolonged visit.  Getting to know them and being involved in their life wherever invited, especially when there is an open door for evangelism or to find application of God’s Word.
Teaching:  Making the scriptures clear and relevant is perhaps one of the most important matters I can be involved in.

A little more about me
At an early age, God brought a very special person into my life, my wife Andrea.  Through the years she has been at my side no matter what the situation calls for.  A support in all things, she is truly my ministry partner.  Andrea and I have been married since 1963 and we have three wonderful children; Tim and wife Rosemary, David and wife, Jennifer, and Danah.  Along with four special grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Paxton, and Jessica, they all bring great joy and blessing to our lives. I came to faith in Jesus as Savior at the age of 24. I attended both Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN and Dallas Bible College in Dallas, TX, completing my undergraduate at College of Biblical Studies in Houston, TX.  I enjoy reading theological books and articles and working around the house, especially outside in the flower garden and time with my our two little toy Australian Shepard dogs, Sassie and Mellie.

Darin Weil

Pastor of Student Ministries

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
As the pastor of student ministries, I have general oversight of the student program from Jr. High through High School. And specific responsibilities with the High School group. I view my role as a coach, equipper, and cheerleader for students, leaders and parents.

My Passions in Ministry
I am a relational discipler. I love spending time with students and their families and walking with them through seasons of life. I am all about helping students take their next step in their relationship with Christ, whatever that may be. I love seeing students develop their leadership skills to the point where they can reproduce that  process of discipleship in other younger believers.

A little more about me
I grew up in Southern California in a non-Christian home. When I was 17 I went to a Promise Keepers event in San Diego where I put my faith in Christ. I was soon called into full-time ministry and spent one year in Mexico as a church planter before attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. I studied Bible Theology. I went on to receive my Masters degree in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton college. I was in Chicago serving at Calvary Memorial Church for 14 years before coming to Bridgepoint. I also love to travel, experience new things, cook, and watch football (I'm an avid Green Bay Packers fan!)

Directors

Gary Rapp

Ministries Facilitator

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
Most of my responsibilities focus on four areas:
•  Oversight of facility operation and maintenance
•  Oversight and planning for security
•  Administration of the new member application process
•  Administrative assistance for benevolence ministry

My Passions in Ministry
I’m passionate about our BridgePoint family and new visitors having a pleasant experience in our facility that truly contributes to the sense of being well cared for by the Lord’s people at BridgePoint. This includes feeling both comfortable and safe anywhere around our campus.
I'm also passionate about facilitating the membership application process for people who are being led to make BridgePoint their church home. This includes timely response and matching people with elder interviewers who are a comfortable fit.
Finally, I’m burdened that when members of our body are in financial need due to circumstances beyond their control that they can be connected with godly advice and some measure of temporary assistance to get back on track.

A little more about me
After almost 30 years working full time in the oil business, I had the opportunity in 2002 to begin working part time on the church staff helping facilitate a number of different aspects of ministry. I still work on both the church staff and for a small oil company and find the variety and opportunity to serve the body and also have a testimony in the business world a great blessing. Linda, my wife of 35 years, is my wonderful partner in ministering at BridgePoint, to at-risk kids in Spring Branch through Cornerstone Family Ministries, and to our seven young grandchildren.

Sue Mooney

Preschool Director

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
•  Oversee the area of Preschool which includes 2 year olds through 1st grade mainly on Sunday mornings.
•  I select, review, and prepare the curriculum that is used in our 2 hour program

•  I oversee the preparation of the materials used by volunteers
•  I help find substitutes for volunteers who are absent
•  I consult with other ministries in areas of need

My Passions in Ministry
I am passionate about children coming to know, love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.  I desire their first years at church to be a time of happiness, security and love with the awareness that God cares for them.  The Lord has given me a deep love for children and their eternal destiny.  I believe they are the most important lives in this church that deserve our very best love and care.

A little more about me
I have worked in Children’s Ministry longer than I care to admit and have never been sorry, tired a few times but never sorry.  I have a wonderful husband who is willing to stand in the parking lot to greet people.  We have 2 adult children who are married with their own children.  Yes, the best part of all, I have 6 wonderful, active grandchildren who give me such joy and encourage me to press on toward the goal of the upward calling of Christ Jesus!  If you are wondering I did graduate from Pepperdine University after transferring there from Biola University.  I taught first grade.  I continue to add to my education in less formal ways by attending things like the Children’s Pastors Convention.

Rebecca Mueller

Children's Director

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
•   Coordinate and lead the BridgeKids BLAST elementary children's program on Sunday mornings
•   Recruit, train, develop and care for adult volunteers
•   Oversee mid-week activities for BridgeKids
•   Develop and oversee special kids events and summer activities

•   Encourage the BridgeKids Blast elementary children toward taking next steps in Christ

My Passions in Ministry
When I look into a child's eyes I see an innocence that allows for a strong relationship with God to develop. My passion in ministry is to nurture that faith in children so that a firm foundation in Christ is built. I believe that the biggest impact that we, as followers of Christ, can have is by imprinting the hearts of our children with Biblical truth. My goal and desire as Chiidren's Director is to partner with parents to shepherd our children's hearts and minds as they progress through each stage of development, with the goal of bringing each one to the saving knowledge of faith in Jesus Christ. I want each child to fully experience God's love through the ministry of BridgePoint Bible Church each time he or she walks through the doors. My passion is to provide kid-friendly formats within a wide variety of ministry options so that a child's love for church will become a love for God and serving Him daily.

A Little More about me...
I am originially from Rockford, Illinois and moved to Texas to teach elementary school. One month after moving here I met my husband, David, at Spring Branch Community Church in the Singles Class while playing on a volley ball league. We were married in the church 23 years ago and have been blessed with three fantastic children, Katie, Amanda and Daniel. I have worked in public and private school teaching every grade from pre-school to 8th. I love children of all ages and especially enjoy capturing their attention through story-telling, object lessons, puppets and games. I graduated from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Il. with a degree in Elementary Education and will hold a Masters degree in Educational Leadership by December of this year.  You might be surprised to know that I have run a marathon and I aspire to be a children's book author. I feel blessed and honored to be a part of the BridgePoint Staff and to have the opportunity to use my gifts to serve children and their families and most importantly the Lord.

Pat Weems

Nursery & Childcare Director

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
Most of my responsibilities focus on four areas:
•  Making sure children are shown God's love
•  Staffing the nursery and church-provided child care with responsible, preferably Christian workers who love children
•  General oversight and maintenance of our nursery facilities
•  Staffing and training volunteers for the Preschool/Nursery Greeter desk

My Passions in Ministry
I’m passionate about the care and training of our youngest church members! It is my prayer that every child who walks through our doors will see God in the eyes of our workers and volunteers. Children are a true gift from God (Psalm 127:3) and coming to church should be the highlight of every child’s day!
I am also passionate about maintaining a clean and orderly nursery that reflects our high view of God. We will always welcome, teach, minister to, and love our children because God loves children and he wants to save them and meet their deepest needs.

A little more about me
My greatest earthly joy has been loving children, my family and friends. I love sharing my life with them! I grew up in Houston attending Spring Branch Schools and graduated from what was then Westchester High School in 1972. The Lord opened doors for me to love and teach the children of Spring Branch for 29 years after receiving a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from what is now Texas State University.  Bible Study Fellowship has been a large part of my life first as our class secretary and then as Children’s Supervisor for the last 16 years in the Houston Central EW Class. Studying God's Word and applying it in my life has led me to live each day to the glory of God! Eternity with my God is just around the corner!!

Debi Hugele

My Passions in Ministry
I'm passionate about women getting to know Jesus on a personal and life-transforming level. My hope is to help every woman at BridgePoint come to know she is part of God’s kingdom “family,” and to help her find her unique place to serve the church body, while equipping her to help further the gospel. I'm also passionate about fostering a leadership culture within our women’s ministry leaders that values faithfulness over success, organic ministry over programs, and dependence on God over man-centered ambition.

A little more about me
My greatest joy and contentment come from resting in God’s supremacy, by embracing the place He has me at any given moment, planned or unplanned… He gives me ample opportunity with my family and friends, and people I meet along my path… I love getting to know people at a deeper level than, “Hi, how are you?”… With my New Orleans roots, I love to entertain in our home, cook for gatherings, and sit on our backyard swing with a good book… I believe a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson describes me well: “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”  I was born and lived in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans, until my husband’s oil industry job moved us to Houston in 1992.  I studied math in college in Lafayette, La. and traded my volleyball “career” for tennis upon moving to Houston.  In addition to the many blessings I receive from being mother to Jillian and Tim, I enjoy any chance I get to be at my husband, Mike’s side… “doing life” with our children, walking our dog, watching a good movie, or breakfast at Denny’s!  It’s the simple things that mean the most.

My Passions in Ministry
My passion… my heart… is to communicate truth and life to all those the Lord places in my path.  Whether through verbal or printed communication, the message is the same:  God is good, we are not… we need Him, He loves us… He alone has provided a way to know Him... we must know, understand and accept that way.  After that – all assurance of eternity with Him is ours and we can enjoy Him to our hearts content… and He can enjoy us.  Bliss.

A little more about me
While I am technically a Californian, I’ve lived in Houston most of my life.  It was during my high school years that the Lord really got a hold of my heart and life.  Those were tremendous years in my early spiritual growth – years I wouldn’t trade for anything.  During that time the Holy Spirit ignited a fire within me and I became absolutely passionate about the One who loves me and saved me.  Since then, we have walked many roads together.  Some were easy, but most were not.  No matter the road, He remained constant, true and altogether loving.  He is, and will always be, my Lord, my God, my Precious Savior.  That’s my heart.  Here are a couple other things about me.  I received a BA in Marketing and a BA Computer Information Systems Management from Houston Baptist University in 1991.  I have an amazing husband, Geoff, and we have four children: Anna, Aaron, Grace & Faith; son-in-law, Taylor and one grandchild, Jackson.  We love spending time together!

A little more about me
I’ve lived Oklahoma, Ohio and Tennessee.  I graduated from a small High School in Ohio but my heart called Tennessee home.  I accepted Christ in high school but didn’t really have a relationship with Him until I moved to Tennessee.  I’ve attended Kent State, Middle Tennessee State and will be attending university of Houston for Media Production and Film Studies.  I am an avid follower of film and music.  I met my beautiful wife while living in Nashville where we found that we have a lot in common in movies, music and in Christ. We’ve been married for 6 years and share a home with our pets.

My goal in this ministry is to assist, encourage, and teach young women how to seek Him during their time in high school.

A little more about me
I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX and came to know the Lord as my Savior at a very young age. I am blessed to come from a supportive family, who encouraged me to spend much of my time in the church during my youth. I attended Texas A&M University, where I met my husband, Tom, and graduated with a BBA in Finance in 2010.  During college, my faith was greatly impacted by my involvement with camp ministries and mission trips. I came to BridgePoint after completing an internship program focused on college student ministry at Grace Bible Church in College Station, TX, and also after getting married very recently! I always enjoy a good book, running or being active, and spending time as newlyweds with my husband!

My Passions in Ministry

I believe my role is to support the staff and members to allow ministry to happen more effectively and I hope I can do that with kindness and grace!

A little more about me
I have had several jobs here at BridgePoint (and previously Spring Branch Community Church) and I can easily say my job is one of my greatest joys. I can’t imagine a more fun-loving and godly group of people to be around every day.  I thank God often for the opportunity to serve Him alongside this staff. I also serve in Children’s Choir with the precious Kindergartners. My husband, Jim,  and I are empty-nesters but our children will always be our children and never far from our thoughts and prayers.

•  Church Receptionist, answer phones, greet visitors

•  Help with the Sunday morning ministry preparations

The passion I have for my ministry position as receptionist is that when people call they hear a warm and friendly voice on the other end of the line. I want them to know that when they call or come in, that they are welcomed and that I am anxious to assist them in any way possible.   I also make myself available to the Pastors, other staff and ministries to assist them when needed. I have been involved in various children’s ministries and have held leadership positions in SBCC and BridgePoint children’s choir for over 25 years. I have also been a regular member of adult choir and praise team.

Brandy Kitchen

Child Protection Coordinator

My Responsibilities at BridgePoint
I oversee the application and screening process for all paid employees and all volunteers working with children under 18 years of age so that a safe environment for children is maintained at BridgePoint.

My Passions in Ministry
I’m passionate about today’s youth, families in need, and broken marriages.  In a world where brokenness is the “norm” I believe because of my life experiences, some that are simply amazing and some that are utterly heartbreaking, I am able to genuinely relate to a wide range of people and the places they find themselves.  I hope the “dash” of my life is said to have inspired others to seek and know God passionately and intimately regardless of their story.

A little more about me
I’m often found marching to the beat of my own drum.  And, usually the music is much too loud!  I can be as serious as daylight when need be, but prefer to live on the edge of zaniness instead.  My husband, of nearly 20 years, once responded to my favorite thing to say to him “you’d be bored without me!” with “what’s wrong with being bored?”  So far, God has not allowed us to know what that is.  Chris and I have two incredible kids who refuse to let boredom enter our lives as well.  I am honored and privileged to expose them to real life through what is commonly called home schooling.  I thank God often for making this way of life possible for me and my family.  I absolutely love being with the special people in my life, sitting on the beach, camping, cooking, and if I’m being honest, cleaning.  Sprinkle in music and life is good!
